Philippians 4:8

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Some days it seems almost impossible to NOT think on the negative things throughout your day. Every little comment, every annoying interaction, every boring chore, every physical pain, every moment spent away from people you love, the list is endless. It seems like the cards are completely stacked against you. Your flesh is just screaming to come out and seems almost untamable. You feel like you are just losing control of yourself, and a foreign being is taking control of you. How are you to maintain victory on days like these? On days when you want nothing more than to lash out, how do you keep yourself from doing so? Every single direction you look around to seems to aggravate and enfuriate your mind. Even calling out to Abba seems hopeless because of the state in which your mind is in. How could He help you when you are in such a wretched state, when your heart feels so perverse to the standard in which He calls you to hold your heart at? Sometimes you don't even have the ability to think on any of the things that are in this IBS verse. Your mind is snared in the wickedness of your thoughts, and you don't have the power to overcome them. However, “And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” II Corinthians 12:9 NKJV. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” II Timothy‬ ‭1:7‬ ‭NKJV. ‬‬God can give us the strength we need to overcome our mind. “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.” II Corinthians‬ ‭4:16‬ ‭NKJV. ‬‬If we call out to our Lord, to flood our minds with the righteous thoughts of this life, and to make us forgetful of all the vile things that lurk in our hearts, His power can save us and give us victory. Jesus’s cross has given us victory over all things, but most importantly ourselves. And as long as we call out to Him for His grace and salvation, the Spirit will always be able to transform our minds, and save us from the depths that our flesh seeks to sink us into. And once those great thoughts are back in our minds, we can't help but think of things that make us want to praise our great and glorious God. For my application, I'm going to write a prayer that I can always turn to whenever I feel as though my mind is trapped and unable to think on all the things that this verse calls us to dwell upon.
